How often should I add nutrients to Lettuce Grow farmstand? ›

Use the 1-teaspoon nutrient scoops that were included in your Nutrients Pack to add nutrients to the tank. This video shows the initial dosing of nutrients when starting with an empty tank. For your routine weekly dosing, you only need to add 1 teaspoon of each nutrient.

A hose (or a sink or bathtub if you are growing indoors) will also be helpful during quarterly resets. A watering can or bucket can also be used to fill your Farmstand. Its reservoir holds 20.5 gallons and plants don't use as much water indoors so it will only take a few trips each week to fill it back up.

Nitrogen is the main nutrient responsible for leaf growth and is therefore important to the development of lettuce plants. The best hydroponic nutrients for lettuce will also include micronutrients in trace amounts. Some of the most important micronutrients for growing lettuce are boron, copper, iron, and manganese.

Lettuce plants thrive in nutrient-rich soil. Once the seedlings emerge, a dose of fertilizer can be applied to maximize lettuce leaf production. Choose a well-balanced fertilizer with equal parts nitrogen, potassium and phosphate. If using a granular type fertilizer, look for 10-10-10 or 5-5-5 mixtures.

Direct Sowing Lettuce

Don't bury them; this dusting is just to hold the seeds in place until germination and shouldn't be any thicker than the seeds themselves.

When sowing seeds directly into the soil, you should plant approximately 10 seeds per foot. Space your rows 12 to 18 inches apart. Thin leaf lettuce seedlings to 4 inches apart. Romaine and butterhead lettuce seedlings require 6 to 8 inches between each plant.
